Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg to join our growing clinician community. This high-impact opportunity offers a 4x12 Nights at a leading Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care to adults and geriatrics with general med/surg diagnoses
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:6-7 during 12-hour night shifts
• Serve in charge nurse role during night shifts as required
• Manage insulin drips and heparin drips for patients
• Perform wound vac dressing changes and provide wound care
• Monitor patients on high flow oxygen and provide respiratory support
• Provide care for patients requiring short-term BiPap with respiratory support
• Document patient care using Epic charting system
• Utilize PYXIS medication system and SBAR communication methods
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations based on census and patient needs
• Float to affiliate hospitals nearby as required
• Work every other weekend as assigned
• Work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year)
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events
• Report to work during mass casualty events or disasters as required
• Provide care for COVID patients when necessary
• Participate in Inclement Weather Team assignments
• Complete 24 hours of unit orientation
• Complete 8-10 hours of non-billable modules pre-start and annually
• Maintain current BLS certification
• Pass EKG testing prior to start date
• Adhere to fatigue policy of no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
• Maintain professional teamwork approach and meet behavioral expectations
• Comply with call-off policy and attendance requirements
• Provide peripheral line care, IV management, and IV insertion
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and manage dysrhythmias
• Manage surgical drains and provide post-operative care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
