Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg to join our growing clinician community. This high-impact opportunity offers a 4x12 Nights at a leading Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive patient care for medical surgical patients with 1:6-7 patient ratios
• Administer and manage heparin drips and other IV medications
• Provide PCA management and pain assessment
• Perform colostomy care and feeding tube care and management
• Administer blood products safely and monitor for reactions
• Manage central line care including maintenance and assessment
• Perform peripheral line care, management, and IV starts
• Conduct phlebotomy and PICC line management
• Monitor and manage patients with dysrhythmias
• Implement O2 protocol management and non-invasive airway management
• Maintain isolation precautions and proper PPE usage
• Care for patients with traumatic brain injuries and ortho trauma
• Manage surgical drains and chest tubes using Emerson/Pleuravac systems
• Provide nasal cannula oxygen therapy and oral suctioning
• Perform tracheostomy management and wound care
• Document all patient care activities using Epic charting system
• Float between similar units and alternate care locations as needed
• Work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Complete 12-hour unit orientation and 16-hour organizational education
• Pass EKG testing prior to assignment start
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events
• Complete 8-10 hours of non-billable modules pre-start and annually
• Maintain current BLS certification
• Adhere to fatigue policy of no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and other support services
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
