Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg Oncology to join our growing clinician community. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct patient care for Medical Surgical patients with Oncology history
• Maintain 1:6 patient ratios (may be higher during increased census)
• Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection routes
• Manage patients with colostomy care, accessing ports, and PICC line management
• Perform blood product administration and central line blood draws
• Provide peripheral line care and management
• Administer heparin and insulin per protocols
• Manage surgical drains and chest tubes using Emerson/Pleur-evac systems
• Provide nasal cannula oxygen and non-invasive airway management
• Implement isolation precautions as required
• Perform wound care and wound vacuum management
• Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias and manage cardiac irregularities
• Care for patients with diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, cancer, malignant neoplasms, encephalopathy, and diabetic complications
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations including inpatient holding in ED
• Work every other weekend as required
• Work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year)
• Complete call requirements when called off on pre-scheduled shifts
• Document patient care using Epic charting system
• Utilize PYXIS medication dispensing system and SBAR communication
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments
• Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster situations
• Attend monthly staff meetings
• Complete 24 hours of unit orientation
• Maintain current BLS certification and oncology certification
• Complete required pre-start and annual training modules
• Pass EKG testing prior to start
• Adhere to fatigue policy of no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
• Make up any shifts that were called out
• Maintain professional appearance per dress code requirements
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
