Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg to join our growing clinician community. This high-impact opportunity offers a 3x12 Nights at a leading Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide nursing care for medical-surgical patients with oncology history in an inpatient setting
• Maintain 1:6 patient ratio (may be higher during increased census)
• Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection routes
• Perform colostomy care and wound care including wound vac management
• Access ports and manage PICC lines and central line blood draws
• Administer blood products and manage peripheral line care
• Monitor and manage patients on heparin and insulin drips
• Provide care for surgical drains and chest tubes using Emerson/Pleur-evac systems
• Manage nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
• Implement isolation precautions as required
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias
• Care for patients with various diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, cancer, diabetic foot ulcers, and encephalopathy
• Document patient care using Epic charting system
• Utilize PYXIS medication system and SBAR communication
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations including ED inpatient holding areas
• Work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Work night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments
• Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty situations, or disasters
• Attend monthly staff meetings
• Complete make-up shifts for any called-out shifts
• Maintain BLS certification and oncology certification as required
• Complete 8-10 hours of non-billable modules pre-start and annually
• Adhere to fatigue policy of no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
• Pass EKG testing prior to start date
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
