Position Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater • Maintain 2:1 patient ratios on a high-volume unit averaging 20 births in 24 hours • Circulate for scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and assist with surgical procedures • Perform sterile vaginal examinations and provide competent immediate newborn care • Provide care for high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients including those under 16 weeks • Triage obstetrical patients in the birthing unit triage area for screening prior to admission • Perform routine outpatient procedures including antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration • Assist with rescue cervical cerclage procedures as needed • Handle double labor assignments as they occur daily on the unit • Manage patient care in a very fast-paced, high-acuity environment with higher complexity than typically expected • Float as needed to Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit based on census and patient needs • Utilize Epic charting system for comprehensive patient documentation • Operate PYXIS medication dispensing system and follow SBAR communication protocols • Start and maintain IVs for patients requiring intravenous therapy • Conduct pain assessment and management for laboring patients • Interpret telemetry monitoring and respond to changes in patient condition • Respond to infant/neonatal arrest situations using NRP protocols • Implement isolation precautions and proper PPE usage when required • Perform OCT (Oxytocin Challenge Tests) as ordered by physicians • Work in LDRP setting providing continuous care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum • Maintain current BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP certifications • Complete 24 hours of unit orientation and required pre-start modules • Work minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule including every other weekend • Work 2 out of 3 major holidays as required • Comply with fatigue policy limiting work to maximum 5 consecutive days and 60 hours per week • Complete annual competency requirements and continuing education modules
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
