Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg Neuro to join our growing clinician community. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct patient care for stroke patients, neurosurgery patients, and other neurological diagnoses including epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 patients during 12-hour night shifts
• Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Administer blood products and manage central line care
• Provide care for patients with craniotomies, CVA, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
• Manage feeding tubes, PICC lines, and high flow nasal cannula equipment
• Monitor patients with seizure disorders and manage substance withdrawal cases
• Administer cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration
• Utilize Epic charting system for patient documentation
• Float to other medical/surgical and telemetry units as needed, including COVID care units
• Work in the 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit with 4:1 patient ratio when assigned
• Participate in rapid response teams and coordinate with interdisciplinary support services
• Complete 36 hours of unit orientation and 8-10 hours of non-billable modules pre-start and annually
• Work every other weekend and make up any missed shifts within the same week or at contract end
• Maintain current BLS certification and complete NIHSS certification
• Pass EKG testing prior to start date
• Adhere to fatigue policy of no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
• Work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year)
• Comply with navy scrub dress code requirements
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
