Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg to join our growing clinician community. This high-impact opportunity offers a 4x12 Nights at a leading Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct patient care for medical-surgical patients with oncology history in an inpatient setting
• Maintain 1:6 patient ratio during night shifts (ratios may be higher during increased census)
• Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection routes
• Perform colostomy care and wound care including wound VAC management
• Access ports and manage PICC lines and central lines for blood draws
• Administer blood products and manage peripheral line care
• Monitor and manage patients on Heparin and Insulin drips
• Care for surgical drains and chest tubes using Emerson/Pleur-evac systems
• Provide nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
• Implement isolation precautions as required
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias
• Complete EKG testing proficiency prior to assignment start
• Utilize PYXIS medication system and document in EPIC charting system
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations including inpatient holding in ED
• Work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments
• Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty situations, or disasters
• Make up shifts when called off from pre-scheduled work shifts
• Attend monthly staff meetings
• Complete 24 hours of unit orientation over 2 shifts
• Complete 8-10 hours of non-billable pre-start and annual training modules
• Maintain current BLS certification and work toward ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certification
• Adhere to facility dress code requirements (navy blue and white scrubs)
• Follow fatigue policy restrictions of no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
