Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg to join our growing clinician community. This high-impact opportunity offers a 4x12 Nights at a leading Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct patient care for adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients with daily census of approximately 43 patients
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:6-7 during 12-hour night shifts
• Perform charge nurse duties as required for night shift travelers
• Administer and monitor insulin drips and heparin drips safely
• Manage high flow oxygen therapy and limited short-term BiPAP with respiratory support
• Perform wound vac dressing changes and general wound care
• Utilize Epic charting system for patient documentation
• Use PYXIS medication dispensing system and SBAR communication protocols
• Pass EKG testing prior to assignment start
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients as needed
• Work every other weekend as assigned
• Work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year)
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events
• Report to work during mass casualty situations or disasters as required
• Maintain current BLS certification and obtain CPI certification as preferred
• Complete 8-10 hours of non-billable modules pre-start and annually
• Adhere to fatigue policy limiting work to maximum 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
• Provide peripheral line care and management, start IVs as needed
• Manage surgical drains and provide telemetry monitoring
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias according to protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Complete 24-hour unit orientation program
• Maintain professional appearance in required navy scrubs
• Demonstrate teamwork approach and meet behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in NC
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
