Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate Lab Specialist - Lab Tech to join our growing clinician community. Key Responsibilities:
• Perform histology procedures including grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining including automated IHC and special stains and some manual special stains • Process routine hospital anatomical pathology specimens • Perform cytology skills including preparing thin prep, cell block, and cytospin for gynecological specimens • Cut tissue sections using microtome and cryostat • Prepare frozen sections and mount sections on glass slides • Prepare slides for staining procedures • Perform Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining • Conduct Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) staining • Perform immunohistochemistry procedures • Handle core biopsies, curettings, excision specimens, and incisional biopsies • Process GI specimens and large specimens using appropriate techniques • Perform precision microtomy on fatty tissue, frozen sections, and hard tissue • Utilize automated and manual microtomes for tissue processing • Work with automatic tissue processors and embedding molds • Handle calcified and decalcified tissue processing • Remove foreign objects as allowed by protocol • Identify and address artifacts in tissue processing • Work with various fixatives including additive, coagulant, and non-coagulant types • Perform dehydration and clearing procedures using appropriate agents • Complete paraffin wax sectioning procedures • Maintain Epic charting system documentation • Float between sister facilities and affiliate hospitals as needed • Work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year) • Complete required training modules pre-start and annually • Maintain valid state licensure and required certifications • Provide minimum of 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within comparable specialty/setting • Utilize facility-provided communication devices when required for duties • Self-report time spent on non-billable training modules • Adhere to facility policies and procedures for laboratory operations
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in CA
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
