Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate Lab Specialist - Lab Tech to join our growing clinician community. Key Responsibilities:
• Perform histology procedures including grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
• Conduct automated IHC and special stains as well as manual special stains
• Process routine hospital anatomical pathology specimens
• Perform cytology procedures on various fluid types including ascitic, bronchial, esophageal, gastric, spinal, and urine specimens
• Utilize Saccomanno, Cytolyt, and Carbowax preparation methods
• Conduct filter prep procedures and staining techniques
• Perform GMS, PAP, and IRON staining procedures
• Cut tissue sections using microtome and cryostat equipment
• Prepare frozen sections and mount sections on glass slides
• Prepare slides for staining procedures
• Remove foreign objects as allowed by protocol
• Identify and address artifacts in tissue processing
• Operate automated and manual microtomes
• Use automatic tissue processors and embedding molds
• Process various specimen types including core biopsies, curettings, excision specimens, incisional biopsies, and shave biopsies
• Handle specialized tissue processing including fatty tissue, frozen sections, and hard tissue microtomy
• Maintain ASCP-HT certification
• Utilize Epic charting system for documentation
• Float between sister facilities and affiliate hospitals as needed
• Work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year)
• Complete required pre-start and annual training modules
• Provide minimum of 2 supervisory references covering employment history
• Maintain valid state licensure
• Self-report time spent on non-billable training modules
• Use facility-provided communication devices when required for assignment duties
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in CA
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
