Position Summary:
VitalHire is seeking a skilled and compassionate RN - Med Surg to join our growing clinician community. This high-impact opportunity offers a 3x12 Nights at a leading Hospital in Lubbock, TX. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide nursing care for medical surgical patients with 1:6 patient ratios
• Care for adult and geriatric patients with conditions including bariatric surgery, post-op colorectal cases, Whipple procedures, and trauma
• Utilize Epic charting system for patient documentation
• Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Float between medical surgical units including MS/Tele, MS Oncology, Palliative Medicine, and orthopedic units
• Manage patients requiring discharge planning and transfers to TCU within 60-minute goal timeframes
• Perform clinical skills including IV management, blood product administration, chest tube care, tracheostomy management, and wound care
• Complete required training modules pre-start and annually (approximately 16 hours)
• Work 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary team including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy
• Manage specialty equipment including lift/transfer equipment, bed alarms, SCDs, and incentive spirometers
• Follow isolation precautions and infection control protocols
• Participate in rapid response and code team activities as needed
• Complete 40-hour orientation program
• Maintain valid compact nursing license
• Provide 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of experience within last 3 years
• Adhere to dress code requirements for licensed nursing personnel
• Self-report time spent on non-billable training modules
Job Requirements:
- Active, unencumbered license in TX
- Minimum of 1-7 years of relevant experience, depending on specialty
- Current Certifications: BLS and/or ACLS, plus any specialty-specific requirements
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, as applicable)
Other Required Documentation:
- Current Resume listing detailed work history (MM/YYYY format)
- Two current clinical references
- State-required professional license
- Physicial exam (completed within the past 12 months)
- TB skin test or Quantiferon Gold (within the past 12 months)
- Immunity Titers - MMR/Hep B/Varicella (declinations may be accepted)
- Current Tdap and Flu vaccinations
- Must pass background check and drug screening
